Explain your prediction for the effect Na Cl might have on g
Explain your prediction for the effect Na^+ Cl^- might have on glucose transport. In other words, explain why you picked the choice that you did. How well did the results compare with your prediction? Recall that, during the experiment, you were asked: What effect do you think adding Na^+ Cl^- will have on the glucose transport rate? You answered: There will be no change in the glucose transport rate.
Solution
Glucose is transported across a membrane via GLUT transporters. These transporters are uniport transporters, i.e., transport of glucose is not associated with the transport of other molecules.
However, Na-Glucose cotransporters are also reported. But Na is not reported to influence the transport of the glucose molecule.
The uptake of glucose molecule by cells is known to depend upon only two factors:
1. Availability of glucose, and
2.The requirement of the glucose.
Therefore, adding Na+Cl- will not change the glucose transport rate.
