12. Name the Relation Part II For each of the following statements, explain whether you think the variables will have positive correlation, negative correlation, or no correlation. Support your opinion (a) Number of cigarettes smoked by a pregnant woman each week and birth weight of her baby (b)Years of education and annual salary Number of doctors on staff at a hospital and number of administrators on staff (d) Head circumference and IQ (e)Number of movie goers and movie ticket price The following problem are due by April 7,2015. There Tion 4.1 also due by April 7.

Solution

These two are negatively correlated. The more the number of cigarettes smoked by a pregnant woman, the lesser will be the weight of the baby. These are positively correlated. Higher the educational qualifications held by a person, more will the earning for him be. The number of doctors and the number of administrators in a hospital are positively correlated to each other. More the number of doctors, more number of administrators will be required for operations in the hospital. They are uncorrelated to each other. A larger size of the head does not imply more IQ or vice versa. They are positively related. Higher the number of people to watch a movie, more demand would raise the ticket prices.
