What do you notice about the divergence of the amino acid (protein) sequence when compared to the nucleotide (DNA) sequence? Nucleotide changes at which codon position most often lead to synonymous (silent) mutations?

Solution

a)The diversity is not really huge;there are mutations but most lead to the same amino acid form. There is less diversity with the amino acid sequences than with the nucleotide sequence.

b)The third Condon position takes part in silent mutations due to its unlikeliness to change the protein when compared to the 1st and 2nd Condon.
