The spring has an unstretched length of lo=200mm and a stiffness of k=7 kN/m. If tan(alpha)=3/4 and the structure is in equilibrium, what is the applied force, F?

Solution

Length ofSpring = lo/Tan(alpha) = 4*200/3 = 266.67 mm = 0.267 m

Fs = Spring Force = kx = 7*(0.267 - 0.200) = 0.4667 kN

and, from Figure,F = Fs = 0.4667 kN
