Global warming is an environmental phenomenon which has been observed in the past few years , in which there has been observed an increase in the average temperature around and across the globe, thus known as global warming. As known, global warming is not a result of natural but human activities. The average temperature on the face of earth has been rising rapidly.

Global warming is caused by an increase in the amount of carbon dioxide present in the atmosphere. Along with carbon dioxide, other air pollutants present in the atmosphere, absorb the solar radiation and the sunlight which would otherwise escape back into the space , causing the earth\'s surface to heat up. There has been an increase in the emission of carbon dioxide by various human activities over the past century. Presently, the carbon dioxide released due to burning of fossil fuels , half of which still remains in the atmosphere. Half of the carbon dioxide emitted from the various sources are absorbed either by the vegetation or the oceans; the rest that stays in the atmosphere trapped by the air pollutants contributes in increasing the temperature of the atmosphere. Not only carbon dioxide, but there are other gases as well that do contribute towards the phenomenon, viz; Chloro flouro carbons, carbon monoxide, nitrogen oxides, sulfur oxides methane and tropospheric ozone, but the effect of carbon dioxide stays at the top. The most probable reason for the increase in these gases is urbanization, population explosion, deforestation, gigantic industrial expansions and the technological advancements. One of the major additions in increasing the carbon dioxide is deforestation. Twenty five percentage of the increase in carbon dioxide is due to the increasing deforestation.

Today, we see a lot many effects of global warming. Also, with the progression in time, the understanding of the same amongst the scientists is increasing. As a result of global warming, glaciers have started to melt and continents have started to show an increased average temperature. As a result of higher melting of glaciers, we see an increase in the sea level which is estimated to have risen from 0.35-0.4 milimeters. As estimated, the average temperature is estimated to increase between 0.3-1.7 degree celsius in case of low emission and 2.6-4.7 degree in case of higher emissions. Between 2001-2010, the temperatures have increased to 0.7 degree and is estimated to continue to increase if a check on the routine activities does not happen. As a result of such situations, the balance between cold days and nights is disrupted. Also, there is increased occurence of landslides, soil erosion, change in rainfall patterns and acid rain. Due to the massive deforestation there is an increase in 0.4 percentage of carbon dioxide every year.

Along with deforestation, another reason for global warming is the increase in population. As the population increases, more and more number of people start usiing the fossil fuel reserves in the form of oil, gas or coal. More the number of automobiles on the roads, more is the amount of emission via these vehicles. The vehicles with lower mileage, contribute more to global warming as compared to vehicles with higher mileage.
