Solution

Let x lb of 50% chocalte mixture used

Let y lb of 10% chocalte mixture used

x+ y = 20 ----(1)

0.5x + 0.1y = 0.25*20

0.5x +0.1y = 5 ------(2)

Solv eqaution 1 and 2:

Get rid of the fractions. by multiplying second equation by 10.

After multiplying we have the following system:

x+y =20

5x + y = 50

Multiply first equation by -5.

After multiplying we have the following system:

-5x5y = -100

5x+y=50

-------------------

y = 25/2 lb = 12.5 lb

x = 15/2 lb = 7.5 lb
