Design a joist for a floor span of 14 ft 16 in oc using Sout
Design a joist for a floor span of 14 ft, 16 in. o.c. using Southern pine No. 2 (NDS Supplement Table 4B) with an floor live load (L) of 40 psf, a dead load (D) of 8 psf. Plywood sheathing prevents lateral buckling, The MC
Solution
solution:
1)here joist is member which is used to support the load on wood structure
2)we have to select joist for live load of 40 psf and dead load of 8 psf and having bearing to bearing center spaacing as 16\'\'
3)hence from table for visually graded southern pine we select grade no.2 with size 2*10inches with span of 16\'1\'\' from table from NDS.
4)selected wood have bending load capacity of 1050 lb/ft2 and it can take heaivier load than applied
5)generally design done using simple engineering formula for stresses and allowable stress design method for bending only and we select joist of southern pine of No. 2 with size 2*10 \'\'.
