What other physiological processes follow a circadian patter
What other physiological processes follow a circadian pattern?
Solution
Melatonin secreted by the pineal gland this gland helps in the establishment of circadian rhythms (day/light cycles) in the body. Melatonin also influences the release of gonadotropic hormones from anterior pituitary.
The action potentials from the SCN (suprachiasmatic nucleus) increases during the mid of the day and decreases by the mid of the night. The circadian rhythm is synchronized to the light-dark cycle by means of light, which act through the “retinohypothalamic tract.”
The physiological processes that follow circadian pattern include,
1). Alertness
2). Sleep pattern
3). Release of growth hormones and the other anterior pituitary hormones
4). Appetite and secretion of digestive enzymes
5). Body temperature
