Solution
Accuracy and precision are two important things to know when using an instrument used for measuring. Accuracy can be defined as the value of the measurement compare to the already known value. If the value measured is near or equal to the known value then the instrument is said to be accurate.
Precision is independent of accuracy. But it can be defined as the value obtained as same when done multiple measurements on same sample.
1) Could you have a situation where your micropipette is precise but not accurate? explain by providing a scenario or example.
Ans: Suppose i want to collect 2ml of sample from using micro pippete adjusted to 2ml, i measured the sample before and known that it is 2ml, after the transfer of sample using micro pipette it is found to be 1.2 ml. and the measurement using the micro pipette is performed five times and the volume transfered is 1.2 ml. In this scenario the micro pipette is said to have prescision but lacks accuracy beacuse the amount we want to measure is 2 ml , thiugh adjusted to 2 ml in micropipette , it was able to transfer 1.2ml. It is precise beacuse multiple times we got the same value.
2.) Could you have a situation where your micropipetting is accurate but por precision? If so, explain using an example/scenario.
Ans: Suppose I want to measure a sample of 2 ml and adjusted the micro pipette to 2ml. After transfer i observed that the transferred amount was 1.95 ml for the first time. The measured value is equal to the known value. When measured second time the transferred value was 2.05 ml, for the third time it is 1.925, fourth time it is 2.025 etc. Though the values are accurate, the micropipette is not precise because it was not shwoing the same values in all the times.
