Provide the complementary strand and the RNA transcription p
Solution
Both DNA and RNA are made up of nucleotides, which in turn specify the code required for production of proteins. There are 4 different nucleotides in DNA, which are -
Adenine (A)
Guanine (G)
Cytosine (C)
Thymine (T)
Thymine (T) is replaced by Uracil (U) in RNA. According to rules of base pairing, Adenine (A) pairs with Thymine (T) in case of DNA and Uracil (U) in case of RNA; and Guanine (G) pairs with Cytosine (C).
Based on the above information, we can now chart out the complementary structure of DNA-
Given DNA sequence: 5\' - AGGGGCCGTTATCGTT - 3\'
Complementary DNA Sequence: 3\' - TCCCCGGCAATAGCAA - 5\' ( Focus on the polarity, i.e., the complementary strand has a 3\'-end at the beginning).
Transcribed RNA sequence - 5\' - AGGGGCCGUUAUCGUU - 3\'
( Note that the RNA sequence is similar to the given DNA sequence, with the exception that during the process of transcription, Thymine is replaced by Uracil).
