The order of Liner Homogenous Relations.

Hey guys, I am a little bit confused about the order of the liner homogenous relations.

If I have a relation such that an= 7an-2 - 6an-3; is the order 3? Since we need the third term? Or is it 2? Since we need 2 terms?

Basically, what is the order of the following Liner Homogenous relation -> an= 7an-2 - 6an-3 and why ? ( almost copied the question from the book)

Thanks in advance for any help !

Solution

The order is 3 because we need the third term. we can distinguish it from the (an-3) term too.
