Given the following phase diagram answer question 15 Melting

Given the following phase diagram answer question 1-5? Melting point of Al-10% Si is About 850 degree C 577 degree C 585 degree C 120 degree C Maximum solubility of Al in Si in solid solution is 1.65%Al 99.83% Al None of the above Si content of alpha-phase at 500 degree C in an alloy of Al -10% Si is 90% 10% 1.5% None of the above Eutectoid reaction in Al-Si system takes place at? 1.65% Si 12.6%Si 99.83% Si None of the above Aluminum content in the liquid phase at 1000 degree C in Al-10%Si is 99.83% l.65% 12.6% 10%

Solution

11. As we know for 12.6%Si, Melting pt. of Al is 5770C from the graph. But if we draw a vertical line at 10% Al and then horizontal to the point of intersection of curve and the horizantal line it is slightly above the 577oC. So the melting pt. of Al is 585oC. Answer is C. 585oC.

12. From the graph, it is clearly seen that maximum solubility of Al in Si is 99.83 % Al. Therefore answer is B. 99.83% Al

13. Answer is C. 1.5%

14. Answer is B. 12.6% Si.

15. Answer is D. 10%
