A strong 25 ms southeasterly lowlevel jet has formed over No

A strong (25 m/s) southeasterly low-level jet has formed over Norman, Oklahoma. The temperature gradiet is directed towards the east at 0.02 K/km

a) Calculate the local time rate of change for the temperautre in Norman

c) Suppose the air to the north of Norman cools twice as fast as that to the south, such that cooling rates are 3 K/hr at a location 200 km to the nortj and 1 K/hr at at location 200 km to the south. Calculate the magnitude orientation of the vector that reperesents the new total temperature gradient at Norman at midnight. Write the gradient in vector form and draw a diagram.

Solution

Given: A strong 25 m/s southeasterly low-level jet has formed over Norman,Oklahoma.

The temperature gradient is directed toward the east 0.02 Kelvin/km

Answer:

Oklahoma is a state in the South Central region of the United States. It is the 20th most extensive and 28 most populous of the 50 United States. Norman is a city in the U.S. state of Oklahoma 20 miles south of downtown Oklahoma city in its metropolitan area.

  a. Calculation of local time rate of change for temperature in Norman is :

U. S. Central Standard Time ( CST ) = GMT-6

The Current Time in Norman,Oklahoma is Wednesday 1/31/2018 ; 4:41 AM CST and 10:41 AM GMT and Temperature of Norman, Oklahoma is 46 F

* The relation between Time and Temperature is directly propotional

i.e., ( Time1 / Temperature1) = ( Time2 / Temperature2 )

b. Calculation of temperature at Norman 250C at 8 pm, raditional cooling rate is 2 K/hr and find temperature at midnight is:

Temperature at midnight: Time difference between is 8 - 12 = 4hrs

Raditional cooling rate is 2 K/hr

For 4hours Raditional cooling is 8K

TM = 298.15 - 8 ( 00C = 273.15 K

= 290.15 K 250C = 298.15K )

Therefore, Temperature at midnight: 290.15 K

C. Cooling rates are 3 K/hr at a location 200 km to the North and 1 K/hr at a location 200 km to the South

Air to North of Norman cools = 2 * Air to South of Norman cools

3 K 900N Norman = 2 * 1 K 900S

= 2 K 1800S

A strong (25 m/s) southeasterly low-level jet has formed over Norman, Oklahoma. The temperature gradiet is directed towards the east at 0.02 K/km a) Calculate t
