In Powder bed AM processes for example Selective Lase Sinter

In Powder bed AM processes, for example Selective Lase Sintering, SLS, what are the four main classifications of binding mechanism?

Solution

1)additive manufactiring is process of producing component from powder without removal of material by step by step addition of layer of powder and thensinter to final component

2)selective laser sintering is one of type of am

3)binding mechanism used in SLS are

a)solid state sintering:in this sintering powder layer is applied over base and it is sinter by laser in the temperature of melting temperature to .5 times melting temperature,in this process bonding occure due to diffusion only,as partical is heated it start necking and it will create region of high and low density and which will induced flow of particle toward neck region as diffusion

b)chemically induced binding:this is generally used in ceramics and no external binder is used,at very high temperature ceramic will split into subcomponent and one of them get oxidized and then it act as binder to partical and induced binding in ceramic particle

c)liquid phase sintering:in case of gass reinforced polymer ,polymer is act as matrix and get fully melted while glass stays is in solid state, hence this liquid state sintering

d)full melting:generally used for metal powder,as all other sintering requires times hence in this case particle heated to melting temperature and then allow to mix and solidify as one, this is also knows as SLM(selective laser melting)
