Solution
Answer:
Evolutionary principles should be applied to human reproductive behavior.
1. Sexual selection:
Females in several animal population select their mates depending upon specific sexual charcteristics, such as brightly colored and detailed feather in peacock. The significance of this selection strategy lies in the concept that these traits are heritable, i.e, the progeny shall inherit these superior traits. Similar to animals, sexual traits such as beard and musculinity in men are regarded as attractive by women and are signs of good health and good genes.
2. Mating behavior:
Parents puts lot of investment taking care of their offsprings. This is referred to as parental investment. But, males and females of many populations do not contribute equally towards parental investments. The sex which invests less, more often males compete with other males to select females. Females are involved in parenting and are more selective in selecting a male.
In case of humans, men tend be selective towards younger partner. According to evolutionary interpretations, younger women tend to be more fertile than the older women. On the other hand, women are more selective towards selecting their male partners.
