What are the fundamental organizational principles of visual
What are the fundamental organizational principles of visual perception?
Solution
The main ones are-
1.Proximity: This principle emphasis that the features (ex- square pattern of dots)which are close together are associated.Similarly, we associate the lines which are close together.
2. Similarity : It emphasis that the features which look similar are associated.Without two different recurrent features we would either see rows or column or both when little circles & squares are evenly spaced both horizontally & vertically so proximity does not come into play.
3.Good continuity : It says that contours based on smooth continuity are preferred to abrupt changes of direction.
4. Closure: According to this principle, interpretations which produce\' closed \' rather than \'open\' figures are favoured.
5. Smallness: small area tends to be seen as figures against a larger background.
6. Symmetry: It is that symmetrical areas tends to be seen as figures against asymmetrical backgrounds.
7. Surroundedness : It suggest that it\'s easier to see vase rather than faces in the two versions on left below .
8. Pregnant : The simplest and most stable interpretations are favoured.
