I did a Fishers exact test What does the test value tell me

I did a Fishers exact test, What does the test value tell me? and how does that relate to chi-square test for independence?

The Fisher exact test statistic value is 0.440685. The result is not significant at p < 0.05.

Solution

Fisher\'s exact test is more appropriate than the chi-square test of independence when the expected numbers are small. The Fisher\'s exact test of independence when you have two nominal variables and you want to see whether the proportions of one variable are different depending on the value of the other variable.

Fisher\'s exact test is applied instead of chi square test when sample size is small , more than 20% of the expected values are less than 5.

In your case all the expected values are > 5. Chi square is more appropriate.

However here p= 0.440685 > 0.05. the null hypothesis is not rejected. We conclude that there is no significant difference in proportions of OI and PD between two years
