Hepatitis C-related: Hepatitis C is a viral disease that causes swelling of the liver. Another cause of this disease is due to consumption of large amounts of alcohol regularly. Alcoholic cirrhosis: Alcoholic cirrhosis is the most serious type of alcohol-induced liver disease. The more scarring, the greater the narrowing of the bile ducts. Due to the inability for bile to move out of the liver results in damage to liver cells.

Primary biliary cirrhosis: This is a chronic autoimmune disease that slowly destroys the liver.
