A merchant blends tea that sells for $5.20 a pound with tea that sells for $2.30 a pound to produce 110 lb of a mixture that sells for $3.75 a pound. How many pounds of each type of tea does the merchant use in the blend?

Solution:- Let he blend the quantity x and y to produce 110 lb

x +y = 110 ......(1)

5.2 x +2.3 y = 110X 3.75 .....(2)

Subtract 2,3 X equation (1) from equation 2

5.2 x +2.3 y = 412.5

2.3 x +2.3 y = 253

2.9 x = 159.5

x = 159.5/2.9

x =55 lb

y = 55 lb
