Solution

It is a technique of killing of microbes mostly bacteria in food articles and other drinks that include dairy products, beverages and other food products. It is named for its inventor Louis Pasteur who for the first time in 1864 established that heating beer and wine kills most of the bacteria that helped their preservation. This technique has a wide scope in food industry especially in dairy sector in order to maintain food under safety and preservation of foods.

Pasteurization differs from sterilization due to the fact that former is not performed to kill the entire microorganism in food. However, viable pathogens are lessened/reduced to the extent that ability of these pathogens to cause disease is unlikely. Sterilization is not widely used in food industry as it negatively affects food quality including their taste.
