4. (TCO E) Define the following as related to a business in the hospitality industry: Length of Stay, Timing of Stay, Overbooking. Clearly define each and give plenty of examples to support your answer. Lastly, discuss how all of the above is interconnected. (Points : 40)

Solution

Length of the stay: It refers to the amount of time or number of days a guest stays. Suppose if your friend is coming to meet you from London and he is going to stay for two weeks, we can say that his length of stay is two weeks or 14 days.

Timing of the stay: It refers to the season or the time during which guest is going to arrive. If the guest is coming in the winter season or summer season we can call it the timing of the stay of guest is summer or winter

Overbooking: Booking of the number of guests in a hotel or guest house over the number as expected or as can be supported by the hotel/guest house. If a guest house can accomodate 100 people at a time but there is rush of guests and manangement had to accomodate 120 , we can say there is overbooking of guests in guest house.

All these terms are related to the hotel business. These terms are used by hotliers .
