let no. of students be x

women ----3x/5

no. of men = x - 3x/5 = 2x/5

no. of men doubled = 4x/5

number of women were increased by 9 = 3x/5 +9

Then 3x/5 + 9 = 4x/5

(3x +45)/5 = 4x/5

3x +45 = 4x

x = 45

There were 45 students in class
