Ceramic Coated Materials are used to have enhanced surface properties of the material. They are used because of their chemical inertness, resistance to high temperature, low thermal conductivity, resistance to wear.

Aluminum oxide (Al₂O₃) is a commonly used ceramic coating. Other materials used for ceramic coating are chrome oxide (Cr₂O₃), zirconium oxide (ZrO₂).

There usage can be seen in making cutting tools, turbine component coating specifically turbine blades, for seal surfaces in pharmaceutical industries and food manufacturing, critical seal in steel industries, thermal shock applications, and refractory material.
