the efficiency expert claims that a new ergonomic desk chair
the efficiency expert claims that a new ergonomic desk chair makes typing at a computer terminal easier and faster. To test it, 15 volunteers are selected. Using both the new chair and their old chair, each volunteer types a randomly selected passage for 2 minutes and the number of correct words typed is recorded. Find and state the null and alternate hypothesis. (could someone please explain how you came up with the answer? I don\'t quite understand what I should be looking for in this)
Solution
Here same group of people are asked to use new chair and old chair
Then test is conducted to see whether there is any difference in the mistakes due to chairs
As the same people are tested the results would be more accurate
Null hypothesis would be to assume that there is no difference because of chairs.
Alternate hypothesis would be to claim that number of correct words is more in the new chair
Hence hypotheses would be:
i) H0: mu 1 = mu2
Ha: mu1 < mu2
(where mu is the average correct words typed )
mu1 =chair 1
mu2 = chair 2
