Do you think wood is mechanically homogeneous (i.e. as strong in all directions? Why or why not?

Wood is mechanically heterogeneous because  the composition of wood are of solid,some liquid and little gases when heated.There are differences in the grain that show the material is not uniformly mixed. This allows certain areas of the sample of wood to have different properties than other areas.
