Six observations were selected from each of three populations. The data obtained is shown below. The ANOVA table for the test is shown as below ANO VA Source of Variation SS df F P-value F critical Between Groups 48 24 1.8 0.199 3.68 Within Groups 200 15 13.33 Total 248 17 Test at the a = 0.05 level to deterniine if there is a significant difference in the means of the three populations. Use both the critical value and the p-value approaches.

Solution

using critical value approach:

H0: means of 3 population are same

Ha: means of 3 population are not same

decision rule: reject H0 if F value> Fcritical

but Fvalue(1.8) is less than F critical so we fail to reject H0

so there is not  a significant difference in the means of the three populations

using p value value approach:

H0: means of 3 population are same

Ha: means of 3 population are not same

decision rule: reject H0 if p value <alpha

butP VALUE>0.05so we fail to reject H0

so there is not  a significant difference in the means of the three populations
