(b) What are the energies of the next three excited states? 1.6 Calculate the Q value for the decay of 234U. Compare this with the Q values for 234U to decay by emitting a deuteron, triton or 3He particle. Use atomic mass data given in Appendix F.

mass of of 234 U - mass of 3He - mass of 231U

= (234.0409521) - (3.0160293) - (231.036294)

= 0.0113712 amu


Q = 0.0113712 amu x 931 MeV / amu = 10.59 MeV
