Problem 3 Sharon Parker bought 20 yards of material to make
Problem 3: Sharon Parker bought 20 yards of material to make curtains. She used 4 ½ yards for one bedroom window, 8 and 3/5 yards for another window, and 3 and 7/8 yards for a hall window. How much material did she have left?
Solution
Length of the material = 20 yards
Material used for one bed room window = 4.5 yards
Material used for another window = 8 + 3/5 = 8 + 0.6 = 8.6 yards
Material used for hall window = 3 + 7/8 = 3 + 0.875 = 3.875 yards
Material Left = Length of the material - (material for (bed room window + another window + hall window))
=> 20 - (4.5 + 8.6 + 3.875)
=> 20 - 16.975
=> 3.025 yards
