Solve the following system of equations by graphing. If the system is inconsistent or the equations are dependent, say so. 24x - 4y = 48 6x = y + 12

Solution

24x -4y = 48 -----(1)

Now rewriting above equation: divide the whole equation by 4:

6x -y = 12

6x = y+12 ------(2)

Rewriting equation 2:

6x - y = 12

So, we arrive at the same equation from both the equations.

So, there are infinite solutions to the above equations. i.e we can asssume x or y equal

to any variable and get y = 6x -12 as a dependent solution.

Let x=t ; y = 6t-12
