A three-phase motor consumes 100kW @ 0.9 pf lagging. The motor has a line voltage of 480V. What is the corresponding line current magnitude? If the motor is delta connected, provide a phasor for the current in each line and each phase. Denote the voltage V_AB as having a zero degree angle and assume the voltages are a positive- sequence (abc) set.

Solution

P=1.732*V*I*COSQ=100*10^3

1.732*480*I*0.9=100*10^3

I=(100*10^3)/(1.732*480*0.9)=133.6 AMPERES.

IN DELTA CONNECTED LOAD

IL=1.732*IPH

VL=VPH

IA=133.6<0 AMPS

IB=133.6<-120 AMPS

IC=133.6<-240 AMPS

IAB=(133.6<0)/1.732=77.13<0 AMPSS

IBC=(133.6<-120)/1.732=77.13<-120 AMPS

ICA=(133.6<-240)/1.732=77.13<-240 AMPS
