1- The volume of a cube is 8 cm^3. Find the volume of a cube whose edges are twice those of the first cube.

48 cm^3

32 cm^3

16 cm^3

64 cm^3

a.

48 cm^3

b.

32 cm^3

c.

16 cm^3

d.

64 cm^3

Solution

Solution:

Let edge of first cube = d

Volume of cube V =d*d*d = d3 = 8 cm3 ( given )

therefore d = (8)1/3

d = (23)1/3 = 2

Edge of second cube is twice of first

therefore edge of second cube = 2d = 4

therefore volume of second cube = 43 =4x4x4 = 64 cm3

Answer: 64 cm3
