Calculate the of small populations that declined at the end

Calculate the % of small populations that declined at the end of the five time steps and the % of small populations that declined all the way to 0 individuals. Is that just 20% and 0% respectively? (The small population are all the trials with a starting population of 5)

Data Table 2: Demographic stochasticity in small and large populations. For this exercise, a die roll of 1, 2, o 3 means o offspring; 4, 5, and 6 mean 2 female offspring (so average is 1 female offspring/female) time 3 time 4 time trial starting population time 1 5 time 2 20 20 do 7 O O O

Solution

Among the small populations, whose starting population is 5, trial 1 shows a decline at time 5.

Therefore, the percentage of small population which shows a decline at time 5 = (1/5 x 100) %

= 20%

Among the five trials of small populations, none of them declined all the way to 0 individuals.

Therefore, the percentage of small population which shows a decline to 0 at time 5 = (0/5 x 100) %

= 0%

Calculate the % of small populations that declined at the end of the five time steps and the % of small populations that declined all the way to 0 individuals.
