A parking lot has the shape of a parallelogram (see figure). The lengths of two adjacent sides are 70 meters and x = 110 meters. The angle between the two sides is 70°. What is the area of the parking lot? (Round your answer to one decimal place.)

Solution

The given paralleogram can be divided in two equivalent triangles

Therefore area of parallelogram=2 * area of triangle

Area of triangle=(a *b/2)sin C

(70x/2)* sin 70= (70*110/2)sin 70= 3617.8 m2

Therefore area of parallelogram=2 * 3617.8= 7235.6m2
