DESCRIBE THE MOTION OF THIS MECHANISM.

Solution

The mechanism is a modified slider crank mechanism. There are a total of 6 links incuding the fixed link. The link 6 will slide over the fixed path C. Link 4 forms the crank and are fixed at O4..Link 5 forms the coupler. Link 2 which is fixed at O2 is connected to the crank with the help of link 3. When the link four rotates it pulls the link 3 which in turn draws the link 2. In this way link 2 and 3 act as extensions of coupler which increases the sliding distance of link 6. There are 5 turning pairs and one sliding pair.
