The ratio of adults to children at a cookout is 2:7. there are 45 total people at the cookout. if 8 of the children at the cookout are girls, how many of the children are boys?
Solution
Let nos. of childern be x and nos. of adults are y
Now, y /x = 2/7
7y -2x =0 ----(1)
x+y = 45 -----(2)
solev the two equation :
multiply equation 2 by 2 :
7y -2x =0
2x +2y = 90
-------------- (add)
9y = 90 ----> y = 10
x = 45-y = 35
Solution (x, y) = ( 35, 10)
Children = 35
girls = 8
So, number of boys = 35-8 = 27
