E-commerce is an Eco-friendly when we compare to Brick -and- mortal retail Do you think that this advantage supports even greater traction for Ecommerce? Will the millennial generation prefer this channel as a result? Discuss that idea briefly.
Solution
E-commerce is more eco-friendly than brick and mortar. This is beacuse brick and mortar model needs showrooms and retail space for their products. This entails use of air conditioning, light, etc. for their retail spaces. E-commerce companies do not require the use of any retail space and thus does not use airconditioning, lights etc. It only needs a storage facility or a warehouse facility for its goods (in case it is an online seller). Many online or e-commerce companies are just aggregators that bring together buyers and sellers. In such cases these e-comerce players do not need the warehouse facility as well, making them all the more eco friendly and reducing their carbon footprints substantially.
This advantage gives greater traction to e-commerce players as they are able to make substantial savings by reducing their use of fossil fuels and reducing their carbon footprints. They pass on these savings to the buyers in terms of higher discounts and attractive loyalty programs.
The millennial generation is very conscious and sensitive to the impact of their activities on the environment. They try and reduce wastage in use of resources in their daily life in terms of usage of electricity, water etc. Thus, the millennial generation will prefer the model of e-commerce as they know that this will cause less damage to the environment and has a lower carbon footprint than the brick and mortar model.
