I got lost trying to figure this out

Find the half-life of a radioactive substance that decays by 8% in 6 years. ()

Solution

We have to use the formula

A=A02-(t/h)

Here A0= initial value

A= value at time t

h= half life

Let initial amount,A0=1

Therefore amount at time t=6 yrs is .92

.92=1 * 2-(6/h)

taking log on both sides

log .92= (-6/h)log 2

log .92/log 2=-6/h

h=-6 log2/log.92

h= 49.9 yrs

Therefore the half life is 49.9 yrs
