Why is polygyny more common than polyandry, and why is it always (or almost always) the males that display the extreme characters in sexual selection?

The obvious reason for more polygyny than polyandry is biological. A male can get several female pregnant at the same. It is more common in animals. A female cannot get pregnant multiple times simultaneously. There\'s only going to be that one pregnancy, and then there are at least 9 months when no new babies are made. Hence polygyny is more common than polyandry.

Males display exteme charecters in sexual selection because they carry only one X chromosome. The Ychromosome is only for maleness. Males have extreme charecters because they have fittness issues, producing extreme charecters in sexual dimorphism.
