Summarize each of the data collection instruments sampling m
Summarize each of the data collection instruments, sampling methods, and statistical methods. What are the strength and weakness of each sampling approach? What specific situations would you use each of the instruments and designs? What are the strenghts and weakness of statisical approach?
Solution
Hi,
The various kinds of sampling methods are;
1. Random Sampling – It includes selecting the sample from the population in a random manner.
The advantages are that sample should represent the target population and eliminate sampling bias, but the disadvantage is that it is very difficult to achieve.
2. Stratified Sampling – In this type of sampling, the reserahcer divides the population into different strata or groups. Then, a probability sample (often a simple random sample ) is drawn from each group.
Gathering such a sample would be extremely time consuming and difficult to do (disadvantage). However, the advantage is that the sample should be highly representative of the target population and therefore we can generalize from the results obtained.
3. Systematic Sampling – In this type of sampling, the sample is chosen in a systematic (i.e. orderly / logical) way from the target population, like every nth participant on a list of names. The advantage to this method is that is should provide a representative sample, but the disadvantage is that it is very difficult to achieve
