The roll of a die has 6 distinct outcomes 123456 If the die

The roll of a die has 6 distinct outcomes, {1,2,3,4,5,6}. If the die is fair, what is the probability that the number you get on a given roll of the die will be even?

a. 1/6

b. 1/3

c. ½

d. 0

please explain how did you get the answer

Solution

The even numbers on a die are - 2,4,6

As the die is fair so probability of occurence of each outcome = 1/6

So, the probability of getting an even number on any roll is the probability of getting any of the values {2,4,6} out of {1,2,3,4,5,6}.

So, the required probability = 3/6 = 1/2.

So, option (C) is correct.

The roll of a die has 6 distinct outcomes, {1,2,3,4,5,6}. If the die is fair, what is the probability that the number you get on a given roll of the die will be
