The list above are the most common elements of the human body and their occurence in the bioshpere.
Scientists stand on both sides of the question about whether metabolism or compartmentalization were more important for the beginning of life.
Give a major argument in favor of each position.
Which seems more important to you?
Why?

| Element | Occurence |
| Oxygen | Atmosphere and hydrosphere |
| Carbon | Lithosphere and atmosphere |
| Hydrogen | Atmosphere and hydrosphere |
| Nitrogen | Atmosphere |
| Calcium | Lithosphere |
| Phosphorus | Lithosphere |
Solution
Nitrogen is major constituent of atmosphere and it dilutes oxygen preventing rapid burning at the earth\'s surface.
Oxygen in atmosphere and hydrospere is used by all living beings. It is needed for respiration by humans and animals.
Phosphorous is important in lithosphere because it helps the plants to grow and provide fertility to the soil facilitating the growth of plants.
Carbon as Carbon Dioxide is used by Plants to make oxygen which is made for respiration use by humans and animals. It prevents heat escape to outer space hence high CO2 lead to green house effect. It is present in lithospere it is present as inorganic and organic forms. The inorganic Carbon sediments forms coal, oil, and natural gas, oil shale. The organic Carbon exist as litter, organic matter, and humic substances found in soils.
