Transportation problem The aircraft arrive at the aprongate
Transportation problem
The aircraft arrive at the apron/gate complex of an airport every 3 min. They spend at the gate (turnaround time) on average 45 min. What is the required number of parking stands/gates at the given apron/gate complex?
Solution
(Bandara and Wirasinghe, 1988) Under the assumption that all aircraft types can use all available parking stands/gates, the number of stands/gates is equal to : N g = g T g
g - is average intensity of aircraft arrivals at apron/gate complex = 3 min
T g - is expected parking stands/gate occupancy time averaged = 45 min
Hence, N g = 3 x 45 = 135
