What is the purpose of filamentous temperature sensitive proteins (Fts)? Explain 2 of them.

Solution

The filamentous temperature-sensitive Z (FtsZ) proteins are found to be significant proteins in bacterial cell division. During bacterial cell division, these proteins first form single-stranded filaments and then eventually change into Z-ring scaffold which is highly dynamic, and then other cell division proteins are recruited. When the recruitment phenomenon is over string bends and Z ring bonds results into closure of the septum and it results into finishing of the cell division, absence of these proteins will otherwise result in interruption of the bacterial cell division and apoptosis will occur. Like in prokaryotes, these proteins have also been found to have a role in eukaryotes. The role played by FtsZ\'s proteins in bacterial cell division is analogous to that of actin in eukaryotic cell division. It has also been established that FtsZ proteins have a role in plastids. It has been observed that these proteins play role in chloroplast and cell division.
