Our experiment this week will test whether malate dehydrogen

Our experiment this week will test whether malate dehydrogenase is the enzyme that converts oxaloacetate to malate. The model for the experiment is shown below. If the model is correct, predict what will happen if NADH and oxaloacetate are mixed in the presence of the enzyme malate dehydrogenase (MDH).

carbonyl function hydroxyl function OH enzyme H+ -OOC-CH2 COO- -OOC-CH. COO- oxaloacetate malate NADH NAD NAD H reducing equivalent Figure 6-1.

Solution

In the presence of malate dehydrogenase enzyme the components OAA and NADH are combined because it is an reversible reaction and we can observe the enhancement of the reaction takes place and NADH consumption will be high with response to the enzyme and reaction is very fast and consumption of NADH is also very fastand finally OAA is fully consumed followed by stripping of electrons from NADH and yields Malate and NAD production.
