If you wanted to use the carbons of lysine to make cholester

If you wanted to use the carbons of lysine to make cholesterol, which enzyme in the lysine pathway (lysine degredation) would not be necessary? Why?

Solution

Glutaryl-COA dehydrogenase which is converting

Glutaryl-COA to Crotoyl-COA which finally converts into Acetyl-COA.

In place of this lysine can convert in Acetoacetate and then into Acetyl COA
