Do you think it is more accurate to say that gymnosperms developed from angiosperms, or vice versa? Explain.

It will be more accurate to say that angiosperms developed from gymnosperms.This is because the characteristics seen in gymnosperms have evolved to give angiosperms their own unique characteristics.A comparative study done to find out the evolution of angiosperms has reported that angiosperms have evolved from a group of gymnosperms known as gnetophytes.This group consists of genera :Ephedra, Gnetum,and Welwitschia, the reproductive structures of which are similar to the flowering stalk of the angiosperms.Also we can say that the structures of gymnosperms have undergone evolutionary changes to form modified , better and more specialised structures of the angiosperms.So, in a way we can say that angiosperms have evolved from gymnosperms.
