Calculate a numeric value for the electric field at the point x = 4 m in diagram A.

Solution

Electric field at a poitn x =4m is the solpe of the curve at that point E = -dV/dx

the slope of the curve at x=4.0m in first figure E = dV/dx = -(-2-0) / 5-3 = 1 V/m

simillarly the slope for 2nd plot at point x = 4m is

E = -dV/dx = -(-50+47) /(5-3) = 3/2 =1.5 V/m
