Why are there only two alleles in a population?

Solution

A simple explination

Since we are diploid organisms, so we have 2 chromosomes one from mom and one from dad, So it is possible that each trait has 2 copies one from mom and one from dad. The two copies of each trait/character we have got are called alleles, hence we have only 2 alleles.

Hope it helps feel free to comment and discuss i shall be glad to help you with your querries ....
