Why is it important for all scientists to use a standard system of measurements rather than the system that may be most popular in their home country or region?

Solution

The standard system of measurements, such as the S.I. units, is a baseline for researchers conducting experiments all over the world. These scientists or researchers may speak a different native language, but their research should comply with the standard system so that it\'s not difficult to communicate their research idea with one another. Else the different system of measurements used by scientists would make the scientific problem more complex.

Suppose, a team of scientists in one part of the world discover a species of plant and name it according to their own language popular in their home country or region. Again, another researcher somewhere else discovers the same plant and names it according to his native language. But the plant is same! Therefore, to avoid such naming confusion, all living organisms are assigned a scientific name, also known as taxonomic name.

Using this analogy, it is evident why a standard system of measurement, also known as the metric system is important for all scientists. Some of the standard systems of measurements are used for measuring length, time, temperature and mass.
