Illustrate how the energy released in ATP hydrolysis gets ph

Illustrate how the energy released in ATP hydrolysis gets physically coupled to the production of a sucrose molecule. Illustrate the two-step process, including the phosphorylated intermediate. Fully describe this final illustration.

Solution

For this question the energy released by the Adenosine Triphosphate actually helps bringing the equillibrium constant down so that the following reaction occurs:

(Glucose + ATP -----> Glucose 6 Phosphate + ADP

Glucose 6 Phosphate + Fructose ------> Sucrose + Phosphate)

Glucose + Fructose + ATP <----------> Sucrose + ADP + Pi Delta G = -3KJ/mol

This reaction produces an energy of -3Kj/mol which shows that the reaction is very favorable and produces energy to a certain extent.
